Damien Ractliffe (The Age)
Damien won this award for his article on how the Melbourne Racing Club would be forced to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in a new State Government tax should the planned residential re-zoning of Sandown racecourse proceed.
Ractliffe also won the $1000 Inglis Best On Breeding award.
BEST FEATURE
THIS award was shared by Racing.com’s Sam Doran and James Tzaferis who both covered the harrowing rescue of 23 severly neglected horses from a Bulla property and how the 20 that survived were nursed back to health.
Sam’s entry was a dramatic video feature while James wrote a compelling print version.
On the recommendation of our judges Rhett Kirkwood, Brian Meldrum and Rod Nicholson the 2022 awards will be in two different categories- print and electronic media.

Leo Schlink of The Herald Sun for his story revealing for the first time how police planted surveillance devices into Darren Weir’s stables, by using other police posing as plumbers, electricians and brickies to distract attention away from them.
